The importance of having routine screenings

We at Feels Like Family Dentistry stress the importance of routine cancer screenings. Screenings can detect oral cancer early. It’s much easier to treat cancer the earlier it’s detected. Oftentimes, by the time the patient experiences symptoms that are bothersome enough to consult a physician, treatment isn’t as successful and the survival rate is much lower. Not to mention, once symptoms are noticeable, it often means the cancer has spread, meaning treatment may be much more invasive. We encourage screenings for our patients so they have the best potential outcome possible. Our team is highly trained and well-respected in the Columbia area. Conducting head, neck and mouth screenings

During an exam, we will examine your head and neck for visible signs of cancer. Dr. Warren will use her hands to feel the soft tissue in these areas to evaluate for lumps. We focus on parts of the body such as the sinuses, throat, swallowing passages, salivary nasal passages and thyroid glands, which are the most common areas for a tumor to occur. Dr. Warren will examine the inside of the mouth for lesions, abnormal white patches or abnormal red patches. If we find any areas of concern, we discuss it with you and offer referral to a specialist for further evaluation.
