Oral cancer screenings provided by Feels Like Family Dentistry give residents of Columbia, SC and the surrounding areas an experience unlike any other. Patients benefit from a team who cares and goes the distance, above and beyond expectations to provide the highest level of care available. In addition to the screenings, the team provides education and support before, during and after procedures.
We at Feels Like Family Dentistry stress the importance of routine cancer screenings. Screenings can detect oral cancer early. It’s much easier to treat cancer the earlier it’s detected. Oftentimes, by the time the patient experiences symptoms that are bothersome enough to consult a physician, treatment isn’t as successful and the survival rate is much lower. Not to mention, once symptoms are noticeable, it often means the cancer has spread, meaning treatment may be much more invasive. We encourage screenings for our patients so they have the best potential outcome possible. Our team is highly trained and well-respected in the Columbia area. Our screenings cause minimal discomfort, but optimal results.
During an exam, we will examine your head and neck for visible signs of cancer. Dr. Warren will use her hands to feel the soft tissue in these areas to evaluate for lumps. We focus on parts of the body such as the sinuses, throat, swallowing passages, salivary nasal passages and thyroid glands, which are the most common areas for a tumor to occur. Dr. Warren will examine the inside of the mouth for lesions, abnormal white patches or abnormal red patches. If we find any areas of concern, we discuss it with you and offer referral to a specialist for further evaluation.
Everyone is warm, personable, gentle, and very concerned with the patients care. Little things show a lot of heart – like recognizing me immediately
when I walked in, double checking that I was comfortable during the procedure, and taking extra time to adjust something for my comfort.
